Hever Castle Golf Club Raises Over £17,000 for Tree of Hope in Inspiring Charity Effort
27 Apr 2026
Hever Castle Golf Club has celebrated a hugely successful year of fundraising, coming together to raise an impressive £17,080 in support of children’s charity Tree of Hope.
The funds were revealed during the Captain’s Charity presentation at Hever Castle, marking the culmination of months of determined effort, creativity and community spirit from club members.
Tree of Hope, based in nearby Tunbridge Wells and founded in 1992, supports families of seriously ill children and young people who need access to medical treatments and therapies not readily available through the NHS. The charity helps bridge the gap between what is medically possible and what families are able to afford, often making life-changing treatment a reality.
For Hever Castle Golf Club, the decision to support Tree of Hope was an easy one. Members wanted to back a local charity that made a direct difference to children and families in the surrounding area, and the connection quickly struck a chord across the club.
What followed was a season of fundraising that brought members together in a shared mission. The Captain’s Challenge, led by former Men’s Captain Glenn Steward with support from Mike Swan and Michael Hull, played a major role in getting the fundraising underway and setting the tone for the year.
One of the standout efforts was the “100 Hole in a Day” challenge, completed by Marcus Pengelly and Pradeep Chandrasekera, which alone raised more than £5,500. The stamina and commitment required for such a feat captured the imagination of members and helped drive donations higher.
Alongside these headline events, additional competitions organised by Alan Bannister and James Humm added further momentum, giving members plenty of opportunities to get involved and contribute throughout the year.
By the end of the campaign, the club had raised a remarkable total, far exceeding expectations and reflecting the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved.
Reflecting on the impact of the fundraising, Fiona Johnstone Hewett said:
“We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the Hever Castle Golf Club members who helped us raise a massive £17,080. The Captain's challenge, undertaken by Glenn Steward with the help of Mike Swan and Michael Hull and the 100 hole in a Day golf challenge undertaken by Marcus Pengelly and Pradeep Chandrasekera raised over £5,500. A huge thank you to all those who took part and supported these challenges.”

The presentation also featured a symbolic “Tree of Hope”, representing the charity’s mission and the positive impact the funds will have on families facing incredibly difficult circumstances. It served as a reminder of what collective effort can achieve when a community comes together behind a cause.
For Hever Castle Golf Club, the campaign has been about more than just fundraising. It has been about bringing people together, supporting a local charity and helping to create real change for children in need.
