Support Axel's journey

Axel is a brave, beautiful little boy living with Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy, a rare and life-limiting condition that affects every part of his daily life. Axel’s muscles are weak, his mobility is limited, and even the smallest movement takes extraordinary effort. Yet his spirit remains unbreakable. His smile lights every room, and his determination inspires everyone who meets him.

Axel receives specialist support at Little Havens Children’s Hospice, and he also receives some support through the NHS, which his family are incredibly grateful for.

But the cruel truth is this: the NHS simply cannot provide the level or frequency of therapy Axel needs to truly thrive. To give him the best chance at progress, comfort, and independence, he needs far more intensive and frequent intervention than the system can offer.

Axel cannot sit or stand unaided yet.

Every day is a battle against a condition that makes even the smallest milestones feel enormous. However, Axel never stops trying.

To support his development, Axel needs frequent and ongoing:

• Physiotherapy

• Hydrotherapy

• Speech and Language Therapy

• Specialist equipment and essential home adaptations as he grows

These therapies are not optional. They are lifelong, essential, and must be frequent to help maintain Axel’s strength, improve mobility, support communication, and ensure his safety and comfort.

Axel’s family see his determination every single day. They watch him work so hard for achievements that many children reach effortlessly. They are proud beyond words but the emotional and financial weight of his care is immense.

7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover our core operating costs.

If we raise insufficient funds, or surplus funds, they will be used, if appropriate, to fund support for our child’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives. If, in those circumstances, we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child, any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to be used for the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
