Help Matthew Walk
We are fundraising for bionic orthotics.
Matthew cannot walk unaided. But with your help and the help of new technology (Agilik) that can change for him.
Not only will it help Matthew begin to lead a more independent life as he enters adulthood, but it will crucially reduce the number of surgeries and speed up the rehabilitation and increase the success of the ones he will likely have.
The Agilik is a high cost piece of equipment costing tens of thousands of pounds. Matthew will be one of the first dozen people using the Agilik in the UK. Hopefully with wider awareness and greater take-up of this new technology, the cost will reduce for others
Matthew is 16 and attends a technical college in North London. He is a massive fan of Arsenal and his aim is to be able to attend matches sitting in regular seats rather than being in his wheelchair.
His cerebral palsy has caused him challenges since birth and despite a major operation (that was not NHS funded at the time) and regular physical therapy, his movement has deteriorated. The funds being raised for Matthew will be life changing. The equipment will aid Matthew to walk “naturally” and train his muscles to walk correctly. This is expected to have a material impact on his knees, hips and spine.
7.5% of all donations to Tree of Hope in relation to this appeal will be allocated to the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope to cover our core operating costs.
If we raise insufficient funds, or surplus funds, they will be used, if appropriate, to fund support for our child’s needs in accordance with Tree of Hope’s charitable objectives. If, in those circumstances, we are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of our child, any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to be used for the general charitable purposes of Tree of Hope.
