Every Mile Matters: Celebrate Bike Week with Tree of Hope

17 Jun 2026

Every June, the UK celebrates National Bike Week — and this year it takes place from 9–15 June. The week encourages people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the freedom, wellbeing and fun that cycling can bring.

But cycling is about more than fitness and fresh air. According to research from JustGiving, cycling charity events are now the third most popular fundraising category in the UK, behind only running and walking events.

For families, fundraisers and supporters of Tree of Hope, National Bike Week is the perfect opportunity to turn pedal power into fundraising power — helping children and young people access vital medical treatment, therapy, equipment and support.

Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, occasional rider or complete beginner, every mile really can make a difference.

Why Cycling Fundraisers Work So Well

One of the best things about Bike Week is that anyone can get involved.

Cycling challenges can be completed solo or as part of a group, making them ideal for families, schools, workplaces and community organisations. They can also be adapted for different ages, abilities and fitness levels — including children and adults who use cycling as part of physiotherapy or mobility support.

Cycling fundraisers are:

  • Accessible and inclusive

  • Social and family-friendly

  • Adaptable for all fitness levels

  • Easy to organise locally

  • Great for schools, workplaces and community groups

Most importantly, every ride can help support children and families fundraising with Tree of Hope.

Fundraising Ideas for National Bike Week

Looking for inspiration? Here are some easy and effective ways to support Tree of Hope during Bike Week.

Take on a Sponsored Ride - Challenge yourself to a cycling goal — whether that’s a coast-to-coast adventure, cycling to work every day for a week, or reaching a personal mileage target in honour of someone special.

Organise a Community Bike Ride - Bring people together with a local cycling event. It could be laps around the park, a countryside route or a family-friendly group ride through your town.

Host a Spin-a-thon - British weather not cooperating? Take the challenge indoors with a sponsored spin-bike relay or endurance challenge at your gym, school or workplace.

Swap Four Wheels for Two - Cycle the school run or commute instead of driving. You could even donate the money saved on petrol, parking or public transport to Tree of Hope.

Ready to Ride for Tree of Hope?

Whether you organise a local bike ride, tackle an endurance challenge or simply swap the car for your bicycle during Bike Week, your fundraising could help change a child’s life.

Every day, children are missing out on vital healthcare because it is simply unaffordable. We can change this, to ensure that families are empowered and supported with their fundraising journeys, to raise the funds that they need for therapies, equipment, home adaptations or life saving medical treatment.

Every mile cycled helps families access the support they urgently need — and shows children and young people that they are not facing their challenges alone.
