trying to raise £43000.00 because with your help they will fund my SDR operation.

Christians story

Our beautiful Christian was born 12 weeks early, weighing only 2lb and spent his first 7 weeks in a special care baby unit. At one years old Christian was diagnosed with spastic diplegia a type of cerebral palsy.

Christian is now 6 years old and is a very happy little boy despite everything he has been through, there have been many ups and downs along the way for Christian. He is faced with tight leg muscles that cause him pain and make it hard for him to walk or, be able to put his feet flat, the terrible leg cramps at night that he has to endure and the endless physiotherapy treatment he has daily, all the other stuff such as serial casting, botox injections, hydrotherapy and many appointment that he has to attend.

Christian would love to be able to do all the things his friends and family can do but he never moans and enjoys all aspects of his life. He is a very confident and cheerful little boy who makes everyone he meets smile.

Christian loves football and all he want is to be able to kick a ball without keep falling over.

After many years of struggling, Christian has reached the stage where he can manage to walk with a walking frame and is able to walk a few steps independently however to do this Christian needs daily physiotherapy along with a lot of encouragement and support.Christian is a very determined boy despite his disability, lives life to the full and tries to join in playing with his friends at school whenever he can, although his lack of mobility means that he is left behind.Christian has been offered an operation which will be simply life changing. The operation, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is carried out at Leeds General Infirmary. This operation, combined with an intensive physiotherapy programme would give Christian the chance to do the thing that most children take for granted – which is to walk ! Although Christian has been offered this opportunity of a lifetime, the NHS are unable to fund it,and we need to raise £43000 for the operation and following treatment. We are aware that this target is a challenge, however the grit and determination Christian has shown over the years gives us the belief that together we can make this possible.

It’s a long journey ahead but as a family we are determined to achieve Christian goal of walking unaided and independently and you can help him take this step forward.

Your donations, no matter how small, will make a big difference in maintaining Christian's mobility and preventing him from facing the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
