Tree of Hope Wins £5000

Tree of Hope Wins £5000 in Mountain Warehouse Competition!

After two rounds of public voting a total of 90,000 votes have been counted and verified to reveal that Theodoros Michaelides has won the Mountain Warehouse Charity Challenge £5000 donation to help a little boy receive a life-changing operation.

Over 660 intrepid walkers, runners, cyclists and explorers entered the competition and shared their truly inspiring stories in the pursuit of winning a £5000 for their chosen charity. The public then voted and shared their favourite story on social media, gaining an impressive 50,000 Facebook shares alone.

Michaelides, who completed the London to Brighton Bike Ride in July, battled it out with fellow entrant Melissa Boulos in what boiled down to a two-horse race in the second round of voting for the top 10 finalists. Both amassed over 24,000 votes between them.

Michaelides said: “The charity challenge has been an amazing experience, seeing how a small community pulled together to get votes. It ended up being a two horse race with a nail biting finish as my closest rivals had over 20k supporters on their Facebook page compared with our 7k. I am proud to have been part of the MW Charity Challenge!”

Michaelides, from Surrey, is fundraising for Tree of Hope to help four-year-old cerebral palsy sufferer, Charlie Grainger, who is hoping to have surgery in the U.S. to help him walk.

Tree of Hope are equally delighted with the announcement. Jeremy Marris, CEO of Tree of Hope, said that: “Tree of Hope is absolutely delighted that Theodoros Michaelides is the winner of £5000 in Mountain Warehouse’s Charity Challenge. This money will help Charlie Grainger and make a significant difference to his young life, by paying for much needed physiotherapy and equipment.”

Theodoros is to be presented with a large charity cheque in Mountain Warehouse’s Guilford store by Managing Director Mark Neale later this month.
