I am making my somewhat 'long awaited' return to the running scene with the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 14th October 2012. I have chosen to raise whatever I can for AGAINST BREAST CANCER (www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk).
Until earlier this year I had never experienced the fear and worry faced when a family member tells you they have cancer. Until then, cancer to me, was something that always seemed to affect other people. That is until my aunt Susan was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January.
My auntie Susan is a brave, fit, healthy and extremely outgoing person and this has shown that unfortunately cancer can affect anyone. Her courage and bravery in the face of adversity has inspired me to try and do something to help in a small way, to help women like her who have to battle this illness on a daily basis.
As an animal lover, I was delighted to find Against Breast Cancer who conduct all of their research without the use of animals or animal byproducts. This I feel is vital if we are to some day cure human cancer.
