Skylar's Special Helmet
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Terry and I would like your help to raise money for treatment for our 8 month old daughter, Skylar. Please read her story below......
Skylar suffered from torticollis when she was a newborn. This is where there is a tightness in the neck muscle that connects the breastbone and collarbone to the skull. The torticollis has rectified itself but due to the tightening of the muscle she developed positional plagiocephaly which has now caused her to have an asymmetrical head shaped.
Skylar now has a head that is shaped like a parallelogram if you look at it from above and her ears are misaligned. We have seen a pediatrician who has confirmed the diagnosis and that there is treatment available but not on the NHS as it is a cosmetic problem and does not affect her development.
I have found a private clinic in Barnet that specialise in the treatment of plagiocephaly but have been advised that the treatment will cost £2,000. The treatment involves a helmet being specially made and repeat visits to get the helmet adjusted. Skylar will have to wear the helmet 23 hours out of 24 hours for up to 6 months. The helmet helps mould her head to the right shape so that she no longer has a flat spot or misaligned ears.
Obviously, I want my daughter to grow up with a normal head shape and will do everything I can to get her the treatment she needs. Any money raised through this just giving page will go to the charity Tree of Hope who will be able to forward all the money raised to the private clinic to pay for Skylar's treatment.
exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot
be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general
funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
