Running for Eva - 15 independent steps and counting!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am running to raise funds for Eva once again - she is such a great girl! This is her story:
My family are raising funds for therapy services and equipment to help me continue to gain independence.
I am 10 and I was born with cerebral palsy. It affects my whole body and I struggle to do the things that most people take for granted. Even my little brother can do things that I can’t do yet but I am determined to keep gaining new skills.
My powered wheelchair has give me some independence but I would love to be able to walk short distances by myself. My record is 15 independent steps! I love a challenge and really like to use my walking frame.
I can’t speak words but I try really hard to make people understand what I am trying to say. Later this year I will move to high school and although I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people I am worried that they will struggle to understand me. I can’t wait for my new communication aid to arrive so that I can start practising to communicate independently but I know it will take a lot of hard work to talk fluently.
I have also started a Family Hope Center programme. The aim is to allow me to catch up with my peers more quickly. This treatment is currently not available on the NHS, and costs almost £8,000 per year, for appointments and advice from a highly qualified team of professionals based in the USA. Some of the funds raised will be used to assist with these costs over the next two years.
