Ralph's Supporting Paw's Assistance Doggy

Ralph is Autistic, with a diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay and a severe Speech and Language Delay, where he struggles with functional language of communicating his needs especially. He is also awaiting a diagnosis of ADHD. For Ralph this means that life can be pretty difficult at times. Things that might be simple for some, are pretty difficult for Ralph and he struggles every single day with a lot of anxiety due to sensory overload. Due to this, Ralph runs off a lot so is in a wheelchair adapted pram to help him be able to go out of the house and get to places that he would like to go or needs to go to. Without this, Ralph either runs off as he gets too anxious or he can't walk due to the anxiety of the sensory overload and throws himself on the floor because he cannot cope.  Ralph also falls over a lot and has very limited spacial awareness and no understanding of risk. This is really dangerous for Ralph. Ralph has recently been assessed and accepted for an Assistance Dog from Supporting Paws. His dog would be trained to help with his anxiety, his running off (which would mean that he would be able to walk with his dog and would no longer need to be in a wheelchair), sleeping, and his speech and language. The dog will also help with Ralph's safety.

Anyone that knows Ralph, knows that he absolutely loves all animals. He is so gentle and loving and was so excited when he met the Assistance Dogs for the assessment. He was able to play in the park, walk through the woods and play hide and seek with one of the beautiful dogs. He is so excited to get his puppy next year. My hope for Ralph is that his Assistance Dog will help him grow in confidence and encourage him to want to get of the house on a daily basis whilst keeping his anxiety at a manageable level. Ralph currently really struggles with leaving the house. I am also hoping that sleep will be a little easier for Ralph with his dog trained to keep him calm.

The opportunity to have an Assistance Dog will change Ralph's quality of life. We are all so excited for him. We are going to be given a golden Labrador between February-April next year (2022) so we need to try and raise £9000 towards his beautiful Assistance Dog by then.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Ralph's story and please if you can help in any way to enable us to achieve this dream for Ralph, we will truly appreciate it.
