As she has got older, her anxiety has got progressively worse which we are finding is affecting her on a daily basis. NHS support for Autism and mental health is extremely limited in the Medway area, so over the past eighteen months, we have been looking at additional ways to support Poppy with her autism and anxiety. We recently found out about dogs that are trained to help support autistic children. At the beginning of the year we came into contact with Supporting Paws, a new assistance dog organisation in Kent and was accepted into their program for a companion/ assistance dog for Poppy. Bailey was then matched to Poppy's needs and started his training to become an assistance dog.
Supporting Paws raise £3000 towards the total cost of training Bailey as an autism companion dog and asks for a contribution from the family of £5000. We are therefore looking to raise funds to help cover the costs of Bailey's training, who is already making a big difference to Poppy's anxieties and improving her quality of life. Last year Poppy would not venture into the garden due to her fear of bugs. In the last couple of weeks, Poppy could be found laying in the garden with Bailey, something that would never have happened before Bailey arrived.
We will keep this page updated with Poppy's progress and milestones and we greatly appreciate any donations or assistance you can offer.
