Get Lily Moving!
Lily was born with Chronic Aortic Stenosis and Co-arctation. Damage to the brain was sustained during and after corrective surgery (resuscitation and lack of oxygen). This lead to a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, epilepsy and left hemiplegia. As a result, Lily has learning and mobility issues. Her heart condition also meant high blood pressure and breathlessness.
As a child, she developed scoliosis which was corrected with rods in her back (in 2012) thus increasing the limitation on her mobility and reach.
In June 2015, Lily suffered complications after a heart valve replacement. Her lungs were irreparably damaged (Bronchiectasis) further impacting her levels of activity and increasing breathlessness.
Lily is now almost 18 years old with physical, medical and learning difficulties. Most of her needs are met by our wonderful NHS and education system.
However, the trike would afford Lily an opportunity to access another form of exercise/physiotherapy unavailable through current services. Lily would also be able to enjoy the freedom of cycling which many of us take for granted.
While the initial investment is very high, Lily is fully grown, and this would be a one-off, life-long investment in her health and happiness.
Please help us to get Lily happier, healthier and enjoying the great outdoors (without exhausting her heart or lungs).
