"Every child deserves a second chance"
My name is Lihai, I am 6 months old little girl from Portslade in East Sussex. Since I was born I have been a happy and healthy baby but when I turned 4 months my mother noticed that my head shape was growing in a awkward shape but it was not visible enough to her because I was born with lots of hair .When I turned 5 months she noticed my head was becoming worse. It was too flat on one side and bulky on another.
Confused and disheartened she googled for a solution. She found out that I am suffering from Plagiocephaly which is also known as the "flat head syndrome". It is caused by baby lying on its back where baby favours sleeping on one position which than becomes flattened due to the constant pressure because their skull is still very fragile and soft.My mother had not heard about this condition because I have two other siblings that never suffered in this way, otherwise she would have taken precautions to prevent this.Upon her research she found out that even though the NHS knows about this condition it does not fund treatment. With no time on her side she knew she had to do something and do it fast.
She found Technology in Motion clinic and took me there on the 19th of May 2014 for detailed diagnosis and treatment. She was told my case is severe and my ears are not aligned and advised I need to be fitted with a Timband helmet as soon as possible.
This helmet will help to reshape my deformed head and give it a more natural shape so that I can lead a normal life and have confidence to face this world. I know when I am older I will be praising my mother and all the donors who helped me.
I am also hoping my story will help raise awareness of plagiocephaly to new mothers and health visitor s to be aware and to take precautions.
Please support Tree of Hope to make a difference to my life.
