Bexhill-on-Sea girl Lauren named as finalist in national tv competition

Britain’s Kindest Kids

Lauren Gander, from Bexhill-on-Sea has made it through to the final of the national tv competition, Britain’s Kindest Kid, run by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and 5 News. In recognition of their achievements Lauren and the other four finalists will meet the Prime Minister, David Cameron at Downing Street on Tuesday 1 November.

The competition, which is now in its fourth year, was set up to recognise and reward the charitable behaviour of children aged between 5 and 16. The finalists have all demonstrated the impressive things they have done to improve the lives of others and make a real difference to the world.

Lauren, 12, has raised over £100,000 for charity since she started fundraising two years ago. She has taken part in lots of different types of activities including zip-wiring down a 200ft bridge and sleeping out in a local churchyard to raise funds for a homeless charity.

Lauren, who suffers from spina bifida, is also an ambassador for the childrens charity Tree of Hope and gives speeches and presentations to raise awareness of their work.

Emma Crosby, 5 News presenter said: These kids are an inspiration and they all truly deserve to be in the final. They have demonstrated acts of real kindness which make a difference to other people’s lives.

Matt Barbet, 5 News presenter said:All five kids are fantastic, and it will be very difficult for people to decide who is the kindest. They all do amazing things to help others, which also does a lot to help break down stereotypes about today’s young people.

John Low, Chief Executive of CAF said; “This year we had more entries than ever before and the range of inspiring stories made it hard to choose the finalists but Lauren stood out. I hope her story inspires others to follow her lead.”

The stories of the five finalists will be broadcast on 5 News at 5pm during the week beginning Monday 7 November. The viewers will then be able to vote by phone, or online to nominate the person who they think is Britain’s Kindest Kid. The winner will be announced live on 5 News on Wednesday 16November.
