Hi everyone, Keira-Leigh is 4 years old, she was born with Pierre Robin Sequence and Sticklers Syndrome and as a result, Keira-Leigh needed a tracheotomy fitted at 10 weeks old to help her breathe without struggling.
Once she had the tracheotomy fitted, although much better for her breathing ability, she was more prone to catching colds and chest infections. At 6 months old, Keira-Leigh became very unwell and was placed in an induced coma as she had contracted swine flu and also pneumonia, her little organs started failing and she was put onto ECMO. This was a very scary time for us as the doctors really didn't think she had a chance to pull through with how unwell she was, but Keira-Leigh fought it and was accepting of the ECMO and remained on this for the following few days. On the ninth day of ECMO, the doctors discovered that her brain had started bleeding in two different places and they had to take her off the ECMO to save her life.
Keira-Leigh was left with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy, she uses a wheelchair, has regular therapy and has a walking frame to try help her get about. We have adapted the house and installed pieces of equipment to make it a safe and comfortable environment.
We are now looking to fundraise money to adapt the garden as a sensory space so that Keira Leigh is able to use her equipment outside and play with sensory/soft play equipment which would make a real difference to her happiness and development.
Thank you for taking the time to read Keira-Leigh's story and any donation is greatly appreciated.
