Jack Gower's Paralympic dream
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hello everyone my name is Jack and I am 13 years old. I live in Hitchin, Herfordshire. I was born after a very difficult delivery and I have deprived of oxygen which led to me being diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy affects individuals in lots of different ways and no two people are ever the same. My cerebral palsy made my legs very stiff and made walking virtually impossible. 4 years ago I was lucky enough to undergo a procedure called SDR at Great Ormond Street hospital.
After lots of physio and hard work I’m now able to walk with sticks and have taken some independent steps. Now I know I will never be able to walk normally but I’m so much more able and active than I ever was and not just from a walking perspective. 18 months ago I tried wheelchair racing... this was something I was unable to do this before my surgery as my legs were just too stiff so I couldn’t kneel.
When I started I was very slow but after 18 months of hard training, I’m getting quicker and have now set my heart on one day competing at the Paralympics.
Now for this to happen there are 2 things I must do.... I need to keep as physically active and mobile as possible and I need to be able to purchase my own racing wheelchair.
I am working with the tree of hope to help me raise money and am hoping to do some sponsored races to help me get to my target.
If you are able to donate and help me achieve my dream I will be forever thankful
Thank you so much in advanced
Jack
Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.n
