A autism assistance dog for Beau
My name is Beau and I am 5 years old. I have autism spectrum disorder. Because of this, life can be very difficult for me. I struggle with sensory overload, so if noise's are too loud I become very frightened. I like to be alone and only have cuddles when I initiate them. I find clothes itchy and uncomfortable. I find social situations hard and struggle to understand other people's feelings. Im able to talk but when I do not like things I'm unsure how to tell my mummy or a grown up and this can make me very emotionally overwhelmed. When this happens I like to hide under my blanket untill I have calmed down. Mummy thinks, me having my own autism assistance dog will help me to self regulate and give me comfort when I start to feel anxious about school and being in large crowds. Mummy thinks the dog will also help my confidence to grow. I love animals and love visiting the zoo with mummy. My nanny has a dog and I love the feel of his fur, it makes me feel calm. I love to go on adventures in the woods and visit the beach. I love to be outdoors but when I'm at home I like to play Minecraft, do drawings and make things.
My mummy took me to visit a training assistant dog through Supporting Paws. I loved him straight away, epically when I was able to give him treats and cuddles. We played together without me having to talk to him, he just knew what to do, and was always by my side. It made me feel happy and confident to have him with me, he made me feel safe. I really want my own assistance dog to go on adventures with but most of all to be my bestest friend. My mummy said my doggy will be trained by Supporting Paws on a individual program especially for my needs. This means the doggy will know how to help me when I need it.
