Gemma's Football Focus
Hi, my name is Gemma and I am 11 years old, I live in Stroud Gloucestershire.
I was born with a rare genetic disease called Aicardi Goutieres Syndrome which has severely affected my life, I cannot crawl, stand, walk and have difficulty communicating with others. Despite these limitations I am an extremely happy and socialable little girl with an infectous personality, crazy sense of humour and possibly the best smile you are likely to see. I love being around my family and friends and especially love getting involved in any clubs and activities that I can manage to do.
I've recently joined Cheltenham Saracens PowerChair Football club which is a great place for me to develop my co-ordination, social skills, communication and teamwork. I love playing powerchair football, but I'm starting to get really disheartened as I have to use an adult size chair that is on loan to the club. This does not offer me the special postural position and support I need. I am only very little, and even with padding I am constantly sliding out the chair which makes me feel very unsafe.
I don't want to lose motivation and give up as this is one of the only sports I can play independently.I am in desperate need of a powerchair that fits me, so that I can whizz around with my friends and play with the team.
I would be so grateful if you could help me in working towards this dream.
Should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
