fin's wish to walk
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I wanted to share with you fins story
Hi guys well as I am only 5 mummies writing this for me but she’s going to tell you my story. It started with me being a little too eager to meet her and I was born 13 weeks early. Due to this I had quite a big bleed in my head and the consequences to today have been that I have a condition called cerebral palsy, this means that both my legs and right arm seem to have a mind of their own and don’t work properly, so I have difficulty with walking and daily tasks. Although I am one lucky boy and I have just had an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), at present this is the only operation that is able to help me in the UK that is permanent. A surgeon has selected some of my nerve branches in my spine and cut them reducing the spasticity. I am only 5 weeks post op and already I have better movements then I have achieved in the past 5 years of my life. This was exciting as I am only number 11 to have this op in the UK and I am determined that I will be able to walk as my mummy and daddy have promised to take me skiing, as that is what I really want to do. This operation has changed my life and will enable me to be independent and play football with my friends and go to the playground and join in. I hope that one day I will be able to walk to our local shops. However to be able to do these things means I have to do a lot of hard work in physiotherapy and I need specialist equipment and changing adaptations to my home. There is a centre in London called Bobath and this offers blocks of intensive physio for people like me and gets amazing results I really want to go but it’s expensive and that is why we need to ask for peoples support because I am really trying my best to walk. So far I can already stand for 30 seconds and take one step on my own and that makes mummy very proud and I am so excited.
