Your will is an important way of looking after the future of your family and loved ones.

Our simple guide to making a will sets out the steps you need to take.

When you come to write your will, as well as remembering your family and the people you love, you may like to consider leaving a gift to Tree of Hope.

“I have been a trustee of Tree of Hope for 5 years and I’m delighted at the difference the charity makes with empowering and supporting the parents and families of sick children. Each year the charity helps over 150 children get the life enhancing treatment and equipment they need, which are simply not available through the NHS. I support Tree of Hope as much as I can, but there is always much more need than we can meet. So, when I realised how easy it was to leave a gift in my will, I decided it was something that I wanted to do. I have always recognised the importance of having a will, especially so because I’m a father to a young child, and it was a straightforward procedure to add a codicil to my existing will – meaning that I didn’t have to spend out to re-write the whole document. It is good to know that when I do eventually pass away, aged 126 (a new world record age) and still owning all my own teeth, I will leave behind a lasting legacy and support for this fantastic charity.”

Why do I need to make a will?

Making a will ensures that your loved ones are provided for as you intended and that your wishes are respected after you have passed away. If you don’t have a valid will, the courts have to administer your affairs after you die. This can cause delays and anxiety for friends and family, and your affairs may not be handled as you would like.
