Cheeky Charlie

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Charlie was delivered by emergency caesarean at QA Hospital, Portsmouth on the 18th April 2012. Following complications Charlie was born not breathing and it took approximately 13 minutes to resuscitate him. He was full term and weighed a healthy 8.5lbs, unfortunately he suffered wide spread brain damage and we were told he was unlikely to survive, luckily Charlie had other ideas and wanted everyone to see his cheeky personality from birth. The staff at NICU did a fantastic job in looking after Charlie, who spent 19 days in total on the ward.

Charlie has a diagnosis of quadriplegic dystonic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and is severally visually impaired (registered blind). He cannot sit, stand, or walk but continues to be cheeky and has a passion for life.

Charlie loves the water, and benefits massively from hydro-therapy, although local pools are not great because of the temperature is not hot enough. So far thanks to the help of our supporters we have raised money to get Charlie a hot tub of his own, which is now in our summer house and a hoist to assist getting him in and out. Charlie can now have essential therapy, whilst pain free and having fun.

We are now raising funds to get a sling that can be used in the water, meaning we can lower Charlie further into the water and he will be able to get a better sensory experience then his current one. Once out of the hot tub there is an area of the summer house which has a bed for us to dry Charlie and we are turning this into a sensory area with lots of lights to help with Charlie's visual stimulation and music (his other passion).

Thank you to everyone who has supported us as a family and helped Charlie xx
