Caleb is four years old and lives in Portadown Co.Armagh. He has spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, which results in his muscles being very tight, particularly in his legs. This means he can’t walk, must rely on a wheelchair, and his Kaye Walker, and many day to day tasks such as dressing and toileting himself are impossible for him. He is often uncomfortable and very tired because his body has to work so hard to do every little thing. Despite this, Caleb rarely complains about the physiotherapy and endless hospital appointments, not to mention the activities he misses out on due to being disabled. He is a wonderful little boy, who adores learning, values his friends and is thrives on companyHe has the most beautiful smile throghout it all.
There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but Caleb may have some hope in the form of a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), carried out in AlterHay Liverpool . Hopefully before March 2014.
This operation, followed by intensive physiotherapy could give Caleb far better mobility, and greatly increase his independence, as well as making him generally more comfortable and reducing the need for orthopaedic surgery in the future. It will reduce his spasms in the legs and also eliminate the need for botox injections every 6-12 months. It also gives him the best chance to stay out of a wheelchair as an adult. We need to raise a huge £70,000.00 to enable Caleb to get this operation and contribute towards costs of travel and accomdiation and then critical rehabilitation after he gets back. Rehab will last 3 years and will take place in SDR fitness Wales and MP fitness in Perth, also at home also. Please help us give him this chance to make his dream come true and achieve his 'will2walk'
