Help Ben's trike adventures
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We were told that it was highly unlikely that Ben would be born, that the pregnancy would not reach full term. This was due to complications that were spotted at the 3 month scan. Almost 14 years later Ben is continuing to defy the odds!
We knew that Ben had a genetic condition but we did not know what it was. Our Doctor at Great Ormond Street was certain she would find the answer and so it was after 10 years, following many appointments and tests we finally received confirmation that Ben has Mowat-Wilson Syndrome.
Mowat-Wilson Syndrome is estimated to affect 1 in 50,000-100,000 births. It has many symptoms which can differ between cases. Ben has global developmental delay, hypermobility, epilepsy and is non-verbal.
Despite the challenges, he is a happy boy who loves to spend time with his family and friends. He is a thrill seeker and loves anything that involves movement and speed.
We are raising funds to buy a specially adapted trike for Ben. This will allow him to get out and about exploring the countryside with us on family days out whilst remaining safe. It will also allow him to improve the strength in his legs, his co-ordination and his independence.
If we manage to hit our target amount we will be able to purchase the adapted trike, a bike to tow the trike (when Ben's legs get too tired to pedal!) and a roof rack of trailer for the car to transport the trike.
