Ana's wish to walk
Hello, I am Ana and I am five years old. I was born with cerebral palsy and dystonia.
My mum and dad are trying to raise money for my post surgery intensive therapy as well as special equipment which is not funded through the NHS.
Here is my story.
I had a brain injury due to oxygen deprivation during my birth. My parents noticed I was delayed in development when I was 5 months old and I also had a laryngomalacia, a weakness of the muscles of the throat, and microcephaly, a condition associated with incomplete brain development.
The biggest challenge is dystonia and athetoid movements which make my muscle tone change affecting my posture because of muscle spasms. Ihave lots of involuntary movements which sometimes are painful and uncomfortable.
I also have very tight muscles in my legs which is why I have to wear an AFO lycro suite and hips brace for over five years. I do daily exercises to learn to control those movement and lots of stretching but itsvery hard to concentrate on my activity because it making difficult for me to do simple things.
I wake up a few times each night due to my involuntary movement which also affects my whole family. This is why I need a surgery and therapies to achieve best results.
This year I have been offered an operation called deep brain stimulation, an implantation of medical devices to a specific part of the brain which sends electrical impulses, carried out in Evelina Hospital in the UK.
After my surgery I will need to go through a private intensive physiotherapy program, hydrotherapy, occupation therapy and hippotherapy for at least two years to improve my fine motor skills, for better mobility and to increase my independence.
I want to be like my friends.
I really hope you can help me achieve my dream of being able to sit, stand and walk independently. Please donate and share my page with everyone you know.
Help me achieve my own first small steps.
Tree of Hope reserves to use these funds for any purpose stated in the parents charter, including but not limited to, medical treatment, surgery and therapies and related travel expenses, medical and exercise equipment, childcare, home adaptations and the cost of vehicles designed for the disabled.
