Aalyrah Davies Plagiocephaly Helmet Treatment
Hi,
I'm Thannaya, Aalyrah’s mummy and Connor is Aalyrah’s Daddy.
Aalyrah has just turned 5 months old and has Plagiocephaly, Plagiocephaly is a type of flat head syndrome which can often be caused by the pressure of babies laying on the back or side of their head. Aalyrah’s head is flattened on the right side due to lack of space within the womb and Torticollis. Torticollis is a twisting of the neck that causes the head to rotate and tilt at an odd angle. Aalyrah is a good candidate for helmet treatment which will treat the Plagiocephaly. This treatment is not funded by the NHS as they deem the head shape to be cosmetic. The NHS usually just advise repositioning however this hasn't worked for Aalyrah as she already favours sleeping on the right side of her head and is restricted due to Torticollis. Aalyrah is currently having physiotherapy for Torticollis, but this won’t improve the shape of her head. Aalyrah was born during a difficult time and spent the last 3 months homeless, and living in a Travelodge due to lack of housing. Mummy being on maternity has caused a financial strain on us so we are unable to fund the treatment alone. The longer it is left without the treatment, the harder it will be to treat. We appreciate that the cost of living crisis is having a massive impact on most of us, so any donation no matter how big or small will really help us out and be massively appreciated.
