In March 2012 Alyssa from Chatham, the most fun loving little girl in the world that cared for everyone, suffered a severe brain injury and almost died. At first she couldn’t even move her eyeballs but has slowly been regaining some control. She was sent to Tadworth for 3 months for rehab but due to the high cost of Tadworth the local council wouldn’t fund her any longer and she was sent home. Since being home her therapy has been greatly reduced despite her needs to if lucky once a month because of budgets even though still will have a negative effect for her possible recovery.

To do anything independently again she needs therapy and equipment, to be able to walk, talk, use her arms and legs, control her head, feed herself , and roll in bed, because at the moment she can’t do anything independently. She wakes each day trapped in her own body that won’t do as she tells it.

She is able to sit with help now and can stand with help and even take a few steps when supported but without therapy she will lose the little she is able to do, risking her becoming rigid and unable to bend anything. Being trapped in her own body that doesn’t work for her must be like a living hell for her and it breaks our hearts.

Alyssa needs long term support with therapy we are talking two years, possibly longer. The NHS cannot and will not fund Alyssa. All money raised goes to Tree of Hope and our named therapy practices invoice Tree of Hope direct who then pays them the money you donated. We are grateful to the Tree of Hope for their support and help.

Alyssa wants to walk and talk again, to get as much independence back as possible. She’s a little girl that wants her dignity and a chance to enjoy life , to be a little girl, having fun, experiencing things that create happiness, and not trapped in her body for the rest of her existence. But she needs help, she needs support, she needs people to believe in her, she needs your faith for hope.
