Hi my name is Sophia Rose. I’m a 2 and half year old little girl from Portsmouth. I’m like most other girls my age; I like singing, dancing, playing with my friends and my favourite band is One Direction. Unfortunately I can’t experience any of the things I like to do, to the extent I wish to, because I have Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy, which means I cannot stand or walk independently.

My Cerebral Palsy was a result of my premature birth as I was born 7 weeks early and my lungs were under developed. Because of the lacking development they collapsed twice when I was just 36 hours old. Then I developed Septicemia which made me very poorly. Luckily the doctors gave me a blood transfusion and because I am a little fighter I pulled through.

As I got older my mummy started to notice delays in my development. I couldn’t roll over until I was 15 months old, I couldn’t sit for any length of time until I was 20 months and I couldn’t crawl until I was 20 months. After months of questions and tests I was finally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy.

I am doing very well now and use a Kaye walker to help me walk and am now also using quad sticks, although I am quite slow on them, which frustrates me a lot. Recently my mummy discovered an operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy), an operation which could be potentially life changing for me. The operation should help to reduce the pain I have from my tightening muscles and allow me to place my feet flat on the ground, something I cannot do. In fact I have to wear AFO splints all day so that I can place my feet flatter. If my feet were flatter, I would be able to gain my balance more easily therefore make it easier for me to walk.

Sadly it is rare for the NHS to fund such an operation, which is why I have made this page. My mummy and I need your help to raise money for Tree of Hope to give me to have this life changing operation. So if you can donate, please do. I can’t tell you how much it means to me. Everyone who knows me says I’m super special and I deserve every chance I can to have as normal and active a life as possible.

I won’t stop fighting. Please help me show Cerebral Palsy who’s boss!

Should the target amount be exceeded (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
