Help Joel to walk

SELECTIVE DORSAL RHIZOTOMY

FOR A CHILD WITH CEREBRAL PALSY

Joel Rogers is from Darley Dale and has cerebral palsy – he will have this life changing operation in Dec 2011.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy is a new operation in the UK that has been performed in the USA over 2000 times with a 100% success rate.

It involves entering the spinal cord – identifying and isolating the nerves that are sending the false signals to legs. The cutting of these nerves removes the spasticity allowing for improvement in the movement in the legs and a greater potential for independent walking. Intense post operative physiotherapy is required.

This account has been set up to raise money towards the the physiotherapy and equipment needs.
