Harry's Happy Feet
Harrison is very excited. He is just starting to take his first steps. He is 3 years old.
Just one year ago, Harry travelled to America to have SDR surgery on his spinal cord to let his legs relax. His legs were tight because he was born with cerebral palsy, and it looked as though he was going to be lucky to walk using a Kaye walker, and that he would most likely end up as a full time wheelchair user.
One year on, Harry is using two sticks to walk, and after physiotherapy every day, swimming, horse riding and strength conditioning he is starting to show the signs of balance and strength required for his first few independent steps in this world.
Harrison is very excited, and so is his big sister Elizabeth that cannot wait for him to be able to chase her around the house.
This has been a very challenging time for us as parents. We have been lucky enough to be able to fund the surgery in America and all of the physiotherapy and equipment etc over the last year at a huge financial cost, but nothing that anyone wouldn't do for their children, and we see how proud Harrison is of himself when he walks on his sticks to the car, and stops to smell the flowers. Harrison is very excited!
For the surgery to be a success, Harry will continue to need physiotherapy and strength conditioning and equipment for many years to come, and also we need to travel back to America in August for Harry to have another minor surgery on his legs, to allow more freedom of movement. The next few years are critical. We have worked out that it will cost approximately £31,500 over the next three years to pay for the services he will need.
We are of course trying our best to fill that gap
ourselves, but we have set up this page in case anyone out there wants
to help Harry in his quest to walk. He is worth it. Harrison is so
excited by life, and the little things that the rest of us seem to take
for granted. He could teach us all a thing or two about how life should
be lived. Please consider doing an event, or helping in any way you can,
Harrison is very excited!
Should we exceed the target amount
(or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any
other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of
Hope to assist other sick children.
